Free swim and gym

From 29 July 2016 all Southwark residents will be able to use the swim and gym facilities for free in six of the borough’s leisure centres, operated by Southwark Council in partnership with Everyone Active.

You can register for this scheme from today, simply click here to register online. Alternatively, ask in your local leisure centre or library for an application form.

When is the offer available? 

  • Anytime on Friday (subject to programmes and timetables)
  • Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to close
  • Over 60s can take part in any Silver sessions free
  • Disabled residents will be able to use all leisure centres for free seven days a week

Why is Southwark Council offering free swim and gym? 

We’re investing in the health of our residents. Over the last decade the council have put almost £50m worth of investment into leisure facilities in the borough and we are continuing to prove our commitment to getting Southwark active with this scheme . 

We believe the best way to be proactive about health and wellbeing is by prevention, by making it easier for people to make healthier choices and to achieve a more active lifestyle.

Southwark residents aged 18 and under, plus over 60s*, can already enjoy free swim and gym sessions at Southwark Council leisure centres. Disabled residents can access The Castle Centre swim and gym for free seven days per week.

Registering for free swim and gym sessions is simple. Either sign up online by clicking here or ask for an application form at your local leisure centre or library, which should then be returned  to your local leisure centre.

*Over 60s Silver sessions only. Free swim and gym sessions limited to designated periods, see timetable for details.

Disability pilot offer at The Castle Centre

One of the fantastic offers at the new state of the art Castle Centre is that disabled Southwark residents can access free swim and gym facilities here seven days a week from Saturday 30 April 2016. This is a pilot scheme at The Castle Centre and is part of the first stages of Southwark Council’s offer of free swim and gym to all local residents . From July 2016 this scheme will be extended to all Southwark leisure centres and ahead of this we would welcome your feedback at the centre on how the scheme can be developed in the future.

Exercise Referral

Through the Free Swim and Gym scheme it is now free for Southwark residents to take part in the exercise referral scheme when referred by their GP or practice nurse. Please view information on the scheme for more details.
