Walking for Health

A new Opportunity is available in the borough, free of charge, to help people to get out and about in the fresh air, to get their area better, to connect with other people and to feel better physically and mentally.

With funding from Big Lottery and on behalf of the Ramblers, Britain’s walking charity, from now until 31st March 2015 I am helping the most vulnerable and the most inactive people in Southwark get more active through walking but at their own pace, in a fun way, in their local area and with lots of support.

The Walking for Health Outreach Project will:

  • Work with community and health-related organisations to provide 12-week walking programmes of tailored, graduated walks
  • Work with individuals who are least active and who may have long-term health conditions
  • Provide led, accessible walks that are designed to be a gateway to independent walking or a stepping stone to joining an existing Walking for Health group
  • Recruit and train volunteers to lead walks and develop new routes
  • Aim to make walking part of people’s everyday life, and thereby contribute to alleviating isolation, improving mental well-being and promoting physical activity.

They run a wide range of health walks for a wide range of people:
