Southwark Emergency Support Scheme (SESS)

The Southwark Emergency Sup-ort Scheme (SESS) is a new discretionary scheme being run by Southwark Council from 2 April 2013. SESS replaces Crisis Loans and Community Care Grants, which were previously assessed by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

The new Southwark Emergency Support Scheme seeks to assist Southwark residents who have experienced an emergency, crisis or disaster, where they or their family are at risk of significant harm as a result. It will also seek to assist those who are at risk of having to move out of their home and community and go into care as well as those who need assistance moving back into the community after spending time in an institution, such as a care home or hospital.

A key principle of the scheme is to pro-vide a holistic service to the most vulnerable local residents.
