The Organisation of Blind African Caribbeans (OBAC) was founded in 1988 by a group of committed visually impaired African and Caribbean people. OBAC became a registered charity in 1994.
Our visiting service provides blind and partially sighted people with friendly, social contact in the comfort of their own homes. As well as providing company and conversation our visitors offer the following support:
DHSCC provide friendly volunteer support for isolated older people aged 60+. We cover a small geographical area which is the central and southerly portion of the borough of Southwark, South London.
Southwark Disablement Association is an organisation of and for disabled adults with physical, neurological or sensory impairments who live or work in Southwark. It provides information and advice, Domiciliary Care, Personal Development opportunities and Volunteering and peer support and activity groups within the Southwark Centre of Independent Living and wider community.
Cambridge House is a multipurpose community organisation. They provide both a Law Centre offers confidential advice, assistance and representation in social welfare law including: Housing; Welfare benefits; Employment.
The Advocacy service aims to enable people to become and remain central to the decisions that are made about their life. We encourage and enable people to speak on behalf of themselves, ensuring that their needs are considered, their rights are respected and they receive what they are entitled to.
Blackfriars Settlement is a community charity providing a wide range of support services, including Children’s and Young Peoples Services; Learning and Development; Legal Advice; Mental Health and Wellbeing; and Older Peoples Services.
Bede House is a Charity which was established as a Settlement in 1938 to work alongside poor families in Bermondsey and Rotherhithe.
Bermondsey and Rotherhithe have some of the most disadvantaged neighbourhoods in the country. Bede’s purpose is to be a focus for individual and community development in the area and to contribute to the pattern of social care in Southwark.
Action for Blind People provide practical help and support to blind and partially sighted people of all ages.It offers a range of support from help with independent living to employment advice, activities and social events for children, young people and families, assistance with technology and visual aids, as well as support with housing, welfare rights and more.
Age Concern Lewisham and Southwark exists to improve life for older people, especially those who are frail. It provides information and advice at its 3 Southwark sites; Mon-Fri Day Centre care; a Black Elders project; Healthy Living Centre and Healthy Living Project; Wellbeing at Home help; Help at Home, including the Happy Feet toenail cutting scheme; and Support Planning assistance.
