Peckham Food Bank

Pecan is pleased to announce it will now be working in partnership with City Hope Church to open a new distribution centre for people to access emergency food on Wednesday’s from 4th December 2013

Since opening in late 2009, Foodbank has had an astonishing impact. Since April 2013 free emergency food has been given to over 2500 households’ people who are in all kinds of financial crisis situations in the Southwark area.

A Foodbank is a store of non-perishable tinned, dried and canned food items that have all been donated by the public to provide free food when people face crisis situations. Donations come from individuals, schools, organisations and local churches, so that we can provide individuals and families with packages of three days of food, which is the period assessed as the minimum time it takes for statutory services to respond to an emergency application.

We are writing to you as you provide services to people in crisis situations local to City Hope Church.  We would like to encourage you to become a referral agent for Southwark Foodbank and encourage households you know to use the service local to them, rather than having to worry about how they will travel to our base in Peckham.  A referral system gives eligible individuals and families a voucher to receive food from us. Clients receive a voucher which they can exchange for food at Southwark Foodbank.

At the Foodbank a trained volunteer welcomes individuals and offers the opportunity to talk and be signposted onto other relevant services to help tackle any longer term issues as well as their immediate crisis.
