New social group for visually impaired young people

The Royal London Society for the Blind has started a new social group for visually impaired young people (and additional disabilities, age range: 11 – 19 years), living in the borough of Southwark.  There will be a mix of meetings, outings, social events, training sessions and one-to-one support.

The emphasis is on young people making decisions about what they want to do and where they want to go, to promote independence and enable better access to the local community. The focus is on fun local activities and on meeting other young visually impaired people in the borough.  Some of the activities undertaken by the groups have been bowling, a visit to Thorpe Park, running a stall at a social event, water skiing, theatre shows and lots of other fun activities.

There is room for 15 young people and the next activity is on the Saturday 16th Aug 2011. We have plenty of experienced, skilled and qualified staff and volunteers to provide one-to-one support to members of the group.

I was hoping to obtain referrals as we are keen to make this project a success.  Please find attached e-flyer, registration form and a letter for families that promotes this unique project in the borough. I would really appreciate if you could circulate the information also do you have contact details for any relevant people or organisations that have direct contact with children and young people who have a visual impairment with additional need.

If you think this would appeal to a child in your care, please contact:

We do hope that you will be able to take advantage of this great FREE opportunity and we look forward to welcoming your service users into the group in the near future.
