On Saturday 6th May a small team from Southwark Carers took part in the Carers Thames Walk 2017.

Growing numbers of pensioners are caring for loved ones and becoming ill themselves doing so, a worrying new report reveals.

The sense of disappointment bordering on despair about the autumn statement’s silence on social care is palpable throughout local government and the social care sector. The chorus of support for action was impressive and unprecedented, unifying many politicians of all parties, NHS leaders, royal medical colleges, the health select committee, independent thinktanks and the Care Quality Commission, as well as those who might be regarded as the “usual suspects”.

The government has been defeated in the House of Lords over controversial proposals to allow councils to request exemptions from statutory social care duties.

Fewer than half of councils are still providing a meals on wheels service after six years of spending cuts, new figures have revealed.

NHS England and NHS Improvement have co-developed a CCG choice planning and improvement guide for CCGs to assess how well patient choice is working in the services they commission.

People who use care services will soon be able to make more informed choices about their care by seeing their CQC ratings.
