Government should care for carers

Sarah Lambert, Head of Policy at The National Autistic Society (NAS) and co-writer of the 50th birthday report: ‘The Way We Are: Autism in 2012’.

To mark our 50th birthday, The National Autistic Society commissioned the largest ever survey into autism, in order to show what life is like in the UK for people affected by the condition.  Covering the wide range of autism experiences from diagnosis and employment to school and independent living, the survey  informed a major new report from the charity,  ‘The Way We Are: Autism in 2012’.

New research finds unpaid carers struggle without support

A worrying 64% of carers have never accessed any support services, such as respite breaks or counselling, and have only sought help from family and friends according to new research by Carers Trust. Furthermore, 60% of those that have been caring for more than five years have done so without any extra support.

Community living helps tackle loneliness

Care home provider, Anchor, has highlighted the benefits of community living in the wake of the first summit on loneliness.

The summit, which was hosted jointly by Minister of State for Care Services, Paul Burstow, and the Campaign to End Loneliness, called for a joined up approach to tackle the big problem of loneliness and launched new online guidance for councils to help them tackle loneliness.
