A speaker from DeafblindUK will be attending the group. Deafblind UK was launched in 1928 by a small group of deafblind people and their carers to offer mutual support and understanding in the face of conditions they found ‘unjustifiably cruel and hard.’ Since then, Deafblind UK has developed into a national charity chaired by a deafblind person.

Deafblind’ UK’s vision is that people who are deafblind or have a combined sight and hearing loss should have equal rights, access and opportunities as all other citizens.

* The Human LibraryThe Human Library

Time: 2:00 pm

The Human Library is a worldwide movement that began in Scandinavia at the turn of the millennium.

The idea is that people volunteer to be books and make themselves available to visitors for a one to one conversation of around 10 to 15 minutes duration about any aspect of their life story that they're willing to share. The purpose of the project is to improve understanding between people, or to simply gain some insight into another person's life experience or point of view.

It works on the basis that everyone has a story to tell, and we're encouraging people to think again if they consider theirs to be too ordinary or not particularly interesting.

* Coffee MorningCoffee Morning

Time: 10:00 am

Have you ever thought....

How could I meet other parents who have a child with additional needs? What things a child the same age as mine may enjoy doing? What support is there for me and my child in Southwark? I wish I could talk to other people about things that interest me

… come and do all of the above in a friendly and safe environment

Many parents say they would like more chances to meet others in similar situations. Parent coffee mornings provide exactly this opportunity, and hopefully a chance to enjoy yourself.

If your child is aged between 5-11, come along on:

19th July from 10am-12pm

All coffee mornings will be held at 54, Camberwell Road, SE5 0EN in the Contact a Family offices at Walworth Road Methodist Church.

Call Abi on 0207 277 4436 for more details.
