Advice and Support

As a carer you are entitled to certain rights and benefits.  However, accessing these services can sometimes prove difficult or frustrating.  In order to enable you to take advantage of the assistence you are entitled to Southwark Carers provides bespoke advice and support on a wide range of carer issues.

Housing and Adaptations: If you are facing issues with housing, we can assist by speaking to housing associations or landlords, or by advising you on the best course of action.

Money and Benefits
: We can help you fill out benefit application forms,  signpost other relevant services and highlight what benefits may be entitled to.

Advocacy: We can assist in procedural matters by writing letters for clients, supporting and empowering you to face daily obstacles with services.  If needed we can also accompany you to hearings/tribunals.

Fuel Poverty: If you are finding it hard to pay your fuel bills we can provide advice on the best ways to increase fuel efficiency and get the most from the energy you use.

Transition: the transition service provides support for families when a young person makes the move from children’s services to adult social care.

Transport and mobility: advising of good services and schemes may be available in comm. Or regionally, filling in forms approaching councils to combat prpoblems with arranged transport

Social and health services: We can liase with Social Services to help you get the services you require.

In addition to the above we can also identify other carer organisation who may be able to provide further help and we can help make you aware of other servies open to you within the community.
