Holocaust Memorial Day 2012
Date: 27/01/2012 | Time: 10:00 | Place: Imperial War Museum, Lambeth Road, London SE1 6HZ
To mark Holocaust Memorial Day, the Imperial War Museum will be running a programme of music, testimony, poetry, and film.
The event will feature holocaust survivor, Vera Schaufeld, and a keynote address by Baroness Julia Neuberger DBE, Senior Rabbi at The West London Synagogue. Her theme will be related to the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust’s theme for this year: “Speak up, speak out, to create a safer, better future”.
A number of Southwark schools will participate, including The Notre Dame Singers from Notre Dame Secondary School, St George’s Road, and there’s also expected to be a high level of diplomatic representation from a number of embassies.
The indoor programme will be followed by a wreath-laying ceremony in the grounds of the museum, at the Soviet War Memorial and The Holocaust Memorial Tree.
It’s advisable for people to register in advance as space is limited. They can do that by contacting Sonia Sutton, The Mayor’s Office, Southwark Council: Sonia.Sutton@southwark.gov.uk or 020 7525 7303.
The event will be hosted by the Mayor of Southwark, Councillor Lorraine Lauder MBE.
