Many of you will know that there have been proposals for real change in social care. Our social care system is struggling to cope with demand, resulting in ever narrowing criteria, leaving many people unsupported.

The Dilnot Commission has suggested changes which would be positive. However, it is far from clear whether the Government will step up and push these through.

The Princess Royal Trust for Carers is a member of the Care and Support Alliance – a coalition of 50 organisations which will be campaigning over the next few months to make sure we get the reforms to social care which carers and their families need.

Our care system is in crisis. We need to tell politicians that.

As part of the campaign we need to raise awareness by writing to newspapers and getting as many carers to write to and meet their MP as possible.

I also wanted to give you advance notice of the Care and Support Alliance mass lobby of Parliament which will be held in London on Tuesday 6 March 2012.

It would be fantastic is as many Carers Centres as possible could bring carers, and their family members or people they care for if they wish, to Parliament on that day.

Together with organisations which support disabled people, older people, children and families as well as carers we will be coming together to give politicians the message: take this opportunity to provide the social care system which people deserve.

I will send more details as they emerge. I hope you will be able to come and join us.

In partnership with The Albany, the Barbican, English National Ballet, Roundhouse and Watermans we are looking for outstanding individuals aged 19-24 who want a career in producing outdoor events. We are offering five full-time NVQ Level 2 paid apprenticeships to help produce London’s most ambitious festival from July – September 2012.

Each apprentice will spend one year at a leading arts organisation and will receive training and support as an event producer. You will also be mentored by a festival producer, learning from experts who have produced events at Glastonbury, Bestival, Brighton Festival, Latitude, Brent Diwali and many others.

You need passion, enthusiasm, the desire to work hard and ideally some experience organising events: e.g. your own gigs, club nights and community events. Ideally, you will also know your local area – we want people who can bring their own flavour to the festival.

In return you’ll get a year-long paid placement, the chance to learn from the best in the industry, build a contact book to die for and play a key part in celebrations for the London 2012 Festival.

Closing date for submissions is 28 November 2011 at 12pm.

In the papers you will note that we received 3 nominations for Chair:

Doreen Gee

John Bland

June Hollands

We are writing to you as we have been contacted by one of the nominees, Doreen Gee to say that they did not wish to stand as chair and were not asked about standing for this post. Therefore, please note that for the position of chair you may only vote for either:

John Bland or

June Hollands

any votes for Doreen Gee will be null and void.

If you have already returned Postal voting forms selecting Doreen for the role of Chair we will contact you immediately to arrange for replacement papers to be sent to you.

If you have given instructions to a Proxy detailing your intention to vote for Doreen as Chair at the AGM on your behalf, we urge you to contact them and update your preference.

However, you will note that Doreen still wishes to stand for the Board and you may vote for her as a Board member.
