Mindfulness course for carers

Friday, July 23rd, 2010

What is mindfulness?

Mindfulness is a way of living with a full and rich awareness, a way of stepping out of automatic pilot and unconscious mental habits, and coming into the present moment with a skilful and kind attention.  It is a simple but profound training in attention and awareness that is a combination of meditation techniques deriving from ancient contemplative traditions brought together with aspects of modern psychotherapy. By paying mindful attention to sensations in the body, and to thoughts and feelings as they arise, it is possible to develop a day-to-day awareness that is more balanced and centred, even when circumstances of life may be difficult. Carers Week webchat with Esther Rantzen

Friday, June 4th, 2010
With Carers Week fast approaching we are delighted to announce that the Princess Royal Trust for Carers have arranged a webchat for all carers with Esther Rantzen – next Wednesday, 9th June, from 7-8pm.
Esther has been in the public eye for many years, having first made her name in the BBC consumer programme – That’s Life! Innovative programmes such as Trouble in Mind (on mental health) and Childwatch followed, and Esther subsequently set up ChildLine, a free 24-hour counseling service for children and young people.
Esther has been a long-term supporter of Carers Week – she was the very first celebrity to support the new partnership formed in 2001 – having cared for her husband Desmond, until he died of coronary heart disease in 2000. Whatever your question for Esther, back in the news last month as an independent candidate in the General Election, we are sure it will be an interesting 60 minutes.
To take part in the webchat you need to first register with The Princess Royal Trust for Carers – the hosts for the event – at http://www.carers.org/user/edit-my-details.html  Once you’ve registered, it is recommend that you visit the chat room http://www.carers.org/chat to familiarise yourself with the surroundings. If you have any difficulties, please email web@carers.org

Do you like to dance?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Lambeth and Southwark are joining forces to promote dance through the Lambeth and Southwark dance network. The dance network has been developed to give dance artists, companies and teachers living and working in both boroughs the opportunity to engage with each other, share ideas and develop partnerships. The network enables the exchange of information and offers support to anyone involved or interested in dance.

Big Dance 2010 is a biennial celebration of dance and dancing, with nine days of dance events in unusual places throughout London, such as shops, parks, galleries and museums, showcasing the diversity of dance styles and attractions from 3 to 11 July. The aim of big dance is to encourage people to get into dance, increase fitness levels and generate a legacy of dance for all.
